Workings of Wattle and Banksia

Workings of Wattle and Banksia, palette knife oil on canvas, 40 x 40cm

Dark green sculptural leathery leaves of Banksia lend themselves so beautifully to application with thick impasto paint and a palette knife. Inspired to paint the natural chaos of our native flora and treat even the sky as though it were layered petals finding place, peace and order.

I paint ‘alla prima’ which means ‘at first attempt’ my paintings are usually completed within one session.
