Scatter Me To The Trees explores the visual contiguity of sky and tree, light and matter. This work investigates the precise moments where intense sunlight encounters physical form, triggering a shift in perception that challenges our understanding of boundaries.

In this composition, light does not simply illuminate; it transforms. As sunlight filters through the canopy, expected local colours are displaced. The physical structure of the tree ceases to be a solid barrier and instead becomes a conduit for light. I scrutinise these shifts as raw perceptual information, prioritising the “optical truth” of the moment over the logical corrections our brains impose on the world.

Using a painting knife and oil, I explore the interplay between the soluble and the solid. Deliberate knife strokes shape tone and form, activating the relationship between negative and positive space. This inquiry is informed by the principles of Mie scattering, where sunlight diffuses through atmospheric particles to form a luminous field. By reducing spatial separation and creating a dialogue between foreground and distance, I invite the viewer to experience light not as something that rests upon form, but as a force that permeates it.
