ROCK TREE FLOW

with MICHAEL REID NORTHERN BEACHES

Artist Statement - Rock Tree Flow for MICHAEL REID NORTHERN BEACHES - a reflection on resilience and adaptability.

Rock Tree Flow Series arises from observing our remarkable Australian native trees. Many grow direct from stone, rooted in narrow fissures or perched on sloping rock shelves, they extend outward over the water with improbable grace, precariously balanced, defying gravity.
These paintings explore a quiet equilibrium. Rock anchors the landscape, while trees lean, arc and reach toward the light, suspended and reflected by water.
What interests me is the balance held within these relationships: weight and lightness, grounding and reach, stillness and flow. The trees seem to achieve something impossible, yet they do so effortlessly, their form settles into a natural harmony.
In this way the landscape suggests a kind of quiet Zen logic—an equilibrium where opposing forces coexist. Rock Tree Flow reflects on this balance, and the resilience of life finding its place.
